Petro Poroshenko announced Monday that he is open to a referendum on federalization for Ukraine, after a year of fighting in the breakaway regions of Donbass. “Ukraine was, is, and I’m sure will remain a unified country not because you and I here, at the top, decide so, but because we regularly look at public opinion,” the Ukrainian president said, adding that 90 percent support that idea. However, he added: “I am ready to launch a referendum on the issue of the state system, if there is a need for that.”
