U.N.: Children Tortured in Syria

The United Nations envoy for Children and Armed conflict cast a bleak eye on the plight of children in Syria, saying that some have been subject to torture as bloodshed under Bashar al-Assad continues unabated. “My staff and other United Nations colleagues have documented government attacks on schools, children denied access to hospitals … and also being subject to torture, including sexual violence” Leila Zerrougui told the United Nations Security Council. The battle raged on in Syria Thursday, with Reuters reporting 54 civilians killed and dozens wounded when an air strike attack hit a fuel station in Syria's northern province of al-Raqqa.
