In wake of a report on sexual abuse and exploitation by United Nations peacekeepers, the U.N. has begun offering DNA testing to help prove paternity claims. The report, by the U.N.’s human rights chief Zeid Raad al-Hussein, says many of the so-called “peacekeeper babies” are now in dire financial straits. The United Nations, however, is letting each member country decide how much effort to put into pursuing paternity claims. Nearly half the paternity claims filed since 2010 were made by minors who alleged sexual abuse.
