Russia and China have vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution calling on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down. This despite President Obama on Saturday issuing the strongest statement on Assad yet: "The suffering citizens of Syria must know: we are with you, and the Assad regime must come to an end.” The reports of a deadly massacre in the city of Homs, where hundreds are estimated to have been killed, did not deter the veto. All 13 other council members voted for the resolution.
