An unarmed Los Angeles handyman shot in the head by the LAPD said he hopes his injuries will spur more training for police. Walter DeLeon, who lost an eye and suffered brain damage from his injuries, said he was just holding a towel and bottle of water when he was shot. “He can’t go to the restroom by himself. He can’t feed himself. He can’t dress himself,” his sister said. Police said they thought he had a gun. DeLeon’s lawyers said they plan on filing a civil-rights complaint next week, which generally comes before a civil suit.
