In a surprising upset of the typical big-name books that dominate Oprah’s list of summer favorites, seven independently published books topped the talk show queen’s 25 recommended reads. The titles include Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, published by the Philadelphia-based Quirk Books, and The Peep Diaries: How We're Learning to Love Watching Ourselves and Our Neighbors from indie fave City Lights Books. Only one independent book has made Oprah’s 25 Books of Summer list prior in the 13 years it’s existed: House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III.
