United Arab Emirates to Attend 2011 Venice Biennale

2011 BIENNALE

Two years after its first successful foray into the Venice Biennale, the UAE will host a national pavilion, curated by Turkish writer and educator Vasif Kortun. From June to October 2011, it will join over 70 other countries to showcase its emerging art scene and introduce young artists to some 300,000 visitors. “One of the main objectives of the pavilion is to strongly communicate internationally the depth of contemporary art practices in the UAE, and to provide a foundation to support the nation’s diverse and developing art scene,” said Dr. Lamees Hamdan who is leading the pavilion’s development.
