Unresponsive Plane Crashes in Sea

FREAK ACCIDENT

Flew from U.S. over Cuba.

An unresponsive six-seat aircraft crashed off the coast of Jamaica after flying from the United States over Cuba on Friday, according to the FAA. Two U.S. fighter jets trailed the aircraft but broke off 12 miles before reaching Cuban airspace. A Cuban fighter jet then began to follow the plane. The pilot of the Socata TBM-700 appeared to be unconscious and the windows of the airplane were frosted, which indicates cabin depressurization. Ted Soliday, executive director of the Naples, Florida airport where the small plane was heading, told CNN it is unknown how many people are aboard the plane but it could be running out of fuel. “Once it gets up that high, it can cruise at good speed with low fuel use,” he said. “Five hours is a long time for that airplane.”
