U.S. employers added 292,000 jobs in the month of December, exceeding expectations and capping a strong year of job growth, according to new Department of Labor statistics released Friday. The unemployment rate remained steady at 5 percent, close to the level economists consider full employment and the nation’s lowest in seven years. For all of 2015, the U.S. added 2.65 million jobs—the second-best year for employment growth since 1999.
