A silver lining has appeared in the fight over the Syrian border town of Kobani. Two days of heavy U.S. airstrikes have slowed ISIS’s advance on the Kurdish town, a reversal from two weeks ago when Turkish and U.S. officials said that ISIS was on the verge of seizing it. However, the U.S.’s statement on the airstrikes warns that “the security situation on the ground in Kobani remains tenuous.” U.S. fighter and bomber planes carried out 14 raids against Islamic State targets on Wednesday and Thursday.
