More than 130,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 since the pandemic began, according to Johns Hopkins University’s case tracker. The grim milestone was reached Monday, just as cases spiked in a number of large U.S. states during the busy Fourth of July holiday weekend, when many people defied CDC social-distancing recommendations. The U.S. leads the world in both the number of confirmed cases and the number of deaths from the virus.
