U.S. Gave Nigeria Intel on Missing Girls

After sending advisers and surveillance drones to the Nigerian region where nearly 300 schoolgirls were kidnapped in April, the U.S. handed over "actionable intelligence" to the Nigerian government. But the authorities there did nothing to pursue the case, even though this information may have indicated the girls' location, according to Africa Command officials. Seven months after the disappearance, U.S.-Nigerian tensions are at an all-time high, diplomats say, and the Nigerian ability to find the girls is weaker than ever. “Ounce for ounce, Boko Haram is equal to if not better than the Nigerian military,” an unnamed U.S. official says.
