For the first time in 30 years, U.S. and Iranian delegates sat down for a one-on-one meeting about the high-stakes game of chicken that is Iran's nuclear program. MSNBC reports that Under Secretary of State William Burns met with Iranian chief negotiator Saeed Jalili during a lunch break at the seven-nation talks in Geneva on Thursday. The State Department hoped that the session would make Iran more willing to talk about how it might alleviate concerns over its emerging nuclear program. State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said that if Iran was willing to address concerns about its nuclear program, then additional meetings would follow. According to Crowley, Obama will assess Iran's position over the next few months, and consult negotiating partners before moving forward.
