The number of U.S. job openings reached a 13-year high in July, and employers hired at the fastest pace in almost seven years. The Labor Department noted that total hiring increased by 81,000 to 4.87 million, the highest since the start of the recession in December 2007. These indicators that the job market is improving were noted in the Job Openings and Labor Turnover survey, or JOLTS, which is a more detailed analysis of monthly employment reports.
