U.S. officials announced overnight that airstrikes in Afghanistan killed Abu Khalil al-Sudani, who was described as a senior al Qaeda official. The terrorist organization has not yet confirmed his death. According to officials, Sudani was directly involved in planning strikes against U.S. forces and a close associate of al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri. They also say he was part of the group’s shura council, its top decision-making body.
