A Thai-born U.S. citizen has pleaded guilty to insulting Thailand's monarchy, a crime that carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. Lerpong Wichaikhammat, who goes by the name Joe Gordon, has asked the U.S. to seek his release. Lerpong translated an article that insults the monarchy and posted it on his blog. He is also accused of linking to a controversial biography of the king that has been banned in Thailand. "I plead guilty because no one can win the case," said Lerpong. "I have no chance.”
