The Al-Shabab assault that killed at least seven soldiers in Mogadishu on Saturday included a suicide attack by a young man who grew up in the United States. Abdisalan Hussein Ali was born in Somalia but spent his formative years in Minneapolis, according to The New York Times. The 22-year-old was one of 30 Americans who the FBI believes have joined Al-Shabab, with at least 20 of them coming from Minneapolis. He was a caseworker at a prestigious law firm and a pre-med student at the University of Minnesota before he disappeared in 2008. He is the third American known to have become a suicide bomber for Al-Shabab.
