U.S. Marine Jailed for Drunken Battering of Australian Woman

Reported to have dragged her from car in Brisbane.

A U.S. Marine has been jailed in Australia after he dragged a 60-year-old woman from her car and repeatedly punched her in the head. Lance Corp. Taylor Wyatt Elwood, 20, was reportedly drunk at the time of the attack. Elwood is also accused of assaulting an off-duty Australian police officer who came to the woman’s aid. The Marine pleaded guilty to the incident, which took place at Brisbane’s Enoggera barracks in July, and was sentenced to three months in jail. He will be dishonorably discharged and possibly court-martialed after completing his prison term. A local police sergeant said the woman “felt like a rag doll being thrown around. She believed she was going to die.”
