A U.S. official has confirmed that compensation has been paid to the families of those who were killed in a shooting rampage in Afghanistan two weeks ago, allegedly committed by U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales. An Afghan official said Sunday that $50,000 was paid for each of the 16 Afghans killed in the spree. Kandahar provincial council member Agha Lalai said the families received the money Saturday and were told it came from President Obama. Lalai said each wounded person received $11,000.
