New York’s Cosmos soccer team will face the Cuban national team in Havana in June, marking the first time an American professional sports team has played in Cuba in 16 years. Cosmos officials would not comment on the game, but a formal announcement on the June 2 match is expected as early as this week. Several Cuban websites falsely reported the game to be slated for April 2 over the weekend. The game comes before July’s Concacaf Gold Cup, the biennial regional championship for North and Central America and the Caribbean, and will take place during the Cosmos’ schedule break in the North American Soccer League.
