U.S. Student Lara Alqasem Allowed to Stay in Israel

U.S. student Lara Alqasem will be allowed to continue her studies in Israel, the country’s Supreme Court ruled Thursday. Alqasem flew to Tel Aviv at the beginning of October to begin her master’s degree at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. She was detained at the airport over her alleged association with Students for Justice in Palestine and the BDS movement. Last week, her appeal was denied by the Tel Aviv District Court, but at a Thursday hearing, the Supreme Court overturned her deportation order, allowing her to pursue her studies.
