No personnel are reported to have been injured after a U.S. Navy submarine collided with an Aegis cruiser Saturday afternoon. The rare collision off the East Coast of the United States left both ships operating under their own power. “We have had circumstances where Navy vessels have collided at sea in the past, but they’re fairly rare,” said Lt. Cmdr. Brian Badura. The Los Angeles–class nuclear-powered fast attack sub and the Aegis-class missile cruiser involved in the accident were being evaluated for the extent of the damage Sunday. The Navy said the sub’s nuclear power plant was “unaffected by the collision.”
