Hoping to improve relations with Israel after inking an Iran nuclear deal, the U.S. is preparing to release convicted Israeli spy Jonathan Pollard, according to U.S. officials who spoke to the Wall Street Journal. Pollard was arrested in 1985 and sentenced to life in prison; Israel has sought his early release for years. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who strongly opposed the Iran deal, has personally pressed for Pollard’s release for years. Pollard, 60, is currently held in a federal prison in Butner, North Carolina.
