In response to hesitation from Afghanistan's government on an upcoming deal to keep American troops in the country beyond 2014, the U.S. government is warning of a complete military withdrawal in the coming year. The deal was supposed to be decided upon by Dec. 31, but President Karzai has requested putting it on hold until presidential elections in April. Meanwhile, American officials want a deal now, and if not, "will be forced to initiate planning for a post-2014 future in which there would be no U.S. or NATO troop presence in Afghanistan,” said a White House spokeswoman.
