The U.S. women’s ice-hockey team ended a 20-year gold drought by winning the Winter Olympic final in a dramatic sudden-death shootout against Canada. The U.S. last picked up gold in the event in 1998 in Nagano, Japan—the first ever Women’s Ice Hockey final at the Olympic Games. Early on Thursday morning, the scores were level after five rounds of penalty shots, but Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson scored an impressive triple-deke goal in the sixth round followed by a save from Maddie Rooney to win 3-2. “I can’t put it into words,”said defenseman Kacey Bellamy. “This whole year is for everyone that came before us. This is for Julie Chu ([ormer USA captain] and for all our families at home, the schools that we went to, everyone supporting us.”
