The chief operating officer of USA Gymnastics—who allegedly helped provide cover stories for disgraced former doctor Larry Nassar—resigned on Friday, USA Today reports. It is unclear if Ron Galimore’s departure was voluntarily, but many of Nassar’s sexual-assault victims have expressed “anger and frustration” that Galimore remained in his position while other USA Gymnastics officials have been forced out. According to The Indianapolis Star, Galimore was “involved in coordinated efforts” with USA Gymnastics and Nassar to conceal the doctor’s dismissal after he was accused of sexual abuse. Galimore reportedly said he would explain Nassar’s absences by telling medical staff the doctor was not feeling well or had to do work with his clinical practice. This comes as the U.S. Olympic Committee is attempting to strip USA Gymnastics of its national governing body status after the fallout from Nassar’s sexual abuse.
