Because star player received improper benefits.

The Bowl Championship Series has stripped the University of Southern California of its 2004 national title. USC’s 55-19 victory over Oklahoma will be wiped from the books and no champion will be listed for that year. The move comes after the school was revealed to have provided improper benefits to its star player, Reggie Bush, including housing, an automobile, and airfare. USC has already been banned for two years from post-season play and lost 30 scholarships over three seasons.
