Vatican Critic Leaves Abuse Commission

An outspoken critic of the Vatican has taken a leave of absence from the Catholic Church's commission on sexual abuse by priests, the Vatican said on Saturday. In a statement, the commission said that "it was decided" at a meeting that Peter Saunders should leave the group and "consider how he might best support the commission's work." Saunders, who is chief executive of Britain's National Association for People Abused in Childhood (NAPAC), is a victim of sexual abuse by clergy, and with his departure, there remains only one survivor on the panel.
