The Vatican fired a gay priest from his Holy See job on the same day an interview was published in which the priest came out as gay. Monsignor Krzystof Charamsa, a Polish priest who identified as gay and said he has a boyfriend in a newspaper interview published Saturday, had held a news conference with his partner and had also planned a demonstration. The Vatican said the firing had nothing to do with Charamsa’s personal life, which it said “merits respect,” but said the interview and planned demonstration was “grave and irresponsible.”
