Venezuela’s opposition party won the majority in parliamentary elections for the first time in 16 years. After Sunday voting, the Democratic Unity coalition secured 99 seats, compared with the Socialists’ 46 seats in the National Assembly, with some districts still needing to be counted. President Nicolas Maduro acknowledged the defeat, blaming the loss on an “economic war” against him. “We are here, with morals and ethics, to recognize these adverse results,” he said in a speech.
