Verizon Wireless customers did not waste any time Thursday when the company opened pre-orders for the iPhone. In just two overnight hours, the company surpassed previous sales records and "had already sold more phones than any first day launch in our history," said Dan Mead, Verizon's president and CEO, in a statement on Friday. "And when you consider these initial orders were placed between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m., it is an incredible success story.” By 8:10 p.m. ET, the company stopped pre-orders for existing customers. On Feb. 10, Verizon Wireless and Apple stores will open at 7 a.m. around the nation to sell the phone, which will also be available that day at Best Buy and select Walmart stores.
