The 45,000 Verizon employees on strike will go back to work Tuesday after the company agreed to extend the terms of their old contracts indefinitely while they restart bargaining for new ones with two unions. Almost half of Verizon's workers, from Massachusetts to Virginia, went on strike Aug. 7 after talks failed with the expiration of their contracts. It was the largest strike in the nation since a General Motors one in 2007. It was a painful episode for workers who didn't have paychecks for two weeks, and Verizon's image suffered as customers complained of delays in repairs and installations.
