Vice President Takes Power as Yemen's Saleh Leaves Country

For medical treatment in Saudi Arabia.

Yemeni Vice President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi has taken over President Saleh’s responsibilities, according to a government spokesman. The announcement comes as Saudi officials say Saleh has arrived Riyadh for medical treatment, though many Yemeni officials insist he is still in Yemen. Saleh was injured in an attack on his compound on Friday, but he gave a speech later that night. Saudi officials say his condition is worse than originally thought. Meanwhile, Saudi government sources say that they have helped to broker an open-ended cease-fire that is meant to end the increasing violence in Yemen. Reportedly, all pertinent parties have now agreed to the deal, but violence continued on Saturday.
