Instead of running toward the sound of gunfire, the cops froze. New footage from the night Stephen Paddock opened fire on a concert in Las Vegas, killing 51 people and injuring hundreds more, has been released by local officials. The bodycam video shows two officers and armed security guards waiting on the 31st floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel for four-and-a-half minutes, while the gunfire continues on the floor above. “Holy shit, that’s rapid fire,” one of the group says. “Right above us. Right above us.” Even once they were informed over the radio that the shooter was on the 32nd floor, the officers remained in place for a further minute and a half. Officer Cordell Hendrex, who was with first-day trainee Elif Varsin, admitted in his report that he “hesitated” and “did not know what to do next.” The cops eventually reached the 32nd floor in time to hear the final volley of shots.
