Kidnapped freelance journalist Austin Tice hadn’t been heard from since mid-August when he disappeared in Syria, but now there’s new hope he’s alive. A 47-second YouTube video titled “Austin Tice is alive” shows the journalist blindfolded and surrounded by masked gunmen wearing the traditional garb of Afghan fighters. In the video, which was posted on Saturday, Tice recites an Islamic prayer and shouts, “Oh, Jesus,” while the men around him yell, “God is great!” State Department officials have reviewed the video but can’t verify its authenticity. The FBI has been investigating his abduction.
