Video: ‘The Color Purple’ Cast Does ‘Purple Rain’

The cast of the Broadway musical The Color Purple paid tribute Thursday evening to rock and R&B legend Prince, who passed away earlier that day, by performing his signature song “Purple Rain” following their show. Star singer Jennifer Hudson told the audience: “Not too long ago, [Prince] called me while we were here and asked me to come out to [his] event... [and] we were honored to be in his presence one last time and we got to have that moment. He said his music will live on and he will live through his music so we want to keep him alive today with this song.” She then belted into song, with cast members and the entire audience eventually joining in.
