Video: WI Police Shoot Fleeing Hostage
Disproving cops' version of the story.
Wisconsin police shot a Vietnam-era veteran as he fled a hostage situation, then left him to die in an alley behind his motorcycle shop, new dashcam video reveals.
Neenah cops blasted 60-year-old Michael “ML” Funk without warning during the December 2015 standoff at Eagle Nation Cycles, according to footage obtained by USA Today.
The video shows Funk, a grandfather and Air Force vet, fleeing the bike shop and falling. Seconds after Funk gets up and runs, police shoot him multiple times, the Appleton Post-Crescent reported. The video contradicts authorities’ previous claims that Funk didn’t obey commands to drop his weapon.
The Daily Beast previously revealed Eagle Nation’s war with Neenah cops. Funk and his business partner, Steve Erato, had a $50-million lawsuit pending against the Neenah police department when Funk was killed.
“The most disgusting other than my partner getting killed… was the supposed rescue,” Erato told The Daily Beast earlier this year. “[The police] bust in to save everybody, get shot at, then they turn around and run back out …. If they’d done their job, Michael wouldn’t have been killed.”
