An early-morning fire in an apartment building in southern Vietnam left at least 13 people dead and 27 injured Friday, authorities said. A fire official cited by Reuters said the blaze broke out in the basement of the building in Ho Chi Minh City before spreading to upper floors, trapping hundreds of residents. “Most of the victims died from smoke inhalation, but we also found people who had died jumping from high windows,” the official was quoted as saying. Authorities said crews were searching for any residents still trapped inside.
