Villanova’s Kris Jenkins hit a deep three at the buzzer to win the 2016 NCAA national men’s basketball championship in a 77-74 victory over No. 1 North Carolina Monday night in Houston. Before the shot, North Carolina’s Marcus Paige hit a three to tie the game 74-74 with 4.6 seconds left on the clock. But Jenkins’s buzzer-beater secured the win, giving Villanova its first NCAA title since 1985. Wildcats sophomore Phil Booth scored 20 points off the bench while Ryan Arcidiacono hit 16 on 6-of-9 shooting. Villanova finished the season 35-5 while UNC ended it with a 33-7 record.
