Violence Breaks Out After Venezuela National Guard Puts Down Mutiny
MUTINY
The Venezuela National Guard put down a mutiny in a poor neighborhood a few miles from the presidential residence, the government said on Monday. The National Guard said in a statement that it had captured all those involved the “treasonous” acts motivated by “obscure interests tied to the far right.” The uprising triggered protests in the same three neighborhoods that were later dispersed with tear gas. The incident occurred around 2:50 a.m. when a small group of guardsmen took a Caracas captain in charge of a police station captive and then moved to a neighboring down in two military trucks, where they stole a cache of weapons from another outpost and were caught hours later.
