Who knew that that video of you puttering around on your piano would wind up in one of the year’s hottest jams?
In the same way that Girl Talk samples the likes of Radiohead, XTC and the Wu-Tang Clan to make new songs, Israeli producer Kutiman has scoured YouTube for unsigned music clips and mixed them to create Thru You Too, a follow-up to his similarly-produced 2009 album, Thru You.
This clip, entitled ‘Give It Up,’ is a sample of what the whole album has to offer. Using a young woman’s a capella song as the vocal track, a young girl on piano for a hook, and various drummers, guitarists and violinists as a rhythm section, Kutiman cobbles together a smooth, dark trip-hop throwback that sounds like a collaboration between Adele and DJ Shadow.
According to the album’s web page, Thru You Too comes out October 1, and if ‘Give It Up’ is a teaser, it could be one of the more essential releases of the year.
