Governor Terry McAuliffe has become the latest leader to prohibit government employers asking potential hires about their criminal history. Exceptions to the law include crimes that “bears specific relation to the job for which they are being considered,” such as jail guards and state troopers, spokesman Brian Coy said. Mcauliffe hopes the practice to “ban the box” will spread to private employers as well. More than a dozen other states also ban the practice.
