Virginia Tech Cop Was Dad to Five

Same weapon used to kill officer, gunman himself.

Details are slowly emerging on Thursday’s shooting at Virginia Tech. Police said Friday that the man found dead in a parking lot was the gunman who killed police officer Deriek W. Crouse. Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller told a news conference that authorities have identified the shooter, but won't release his name until they get final confirmation from a medical examiner. Crouse was a 39-year-old Army veteran and the father of five children. The same gun was used on both Crouse and the shooter, suggesting a murder-suicide. Police have not figured out why the shooter targeted Crouse. "That's very much the fundamental part of the investigation right now," said Geller.
