VMAs Get Largest MTV Audience Ever

Who said MTV doesn’t pay attention to music anymore? Sunday night’s Video Music Awards set records for the largest audience in MTV history: 12.4 million viewers tuned in to watch the show, and the telecast also became the No. 1 nonsports cable telecast of 2011. During the show, Beyoncé announced her pregnancy, Lady Gaga dressed as male alter ego Jo Calderone, and Britney Spears won MTV’s vanguard award. Katy Perry said, “Anything can happen during the VMAs. It’s definitely just the funnest awards show of the whole gamut, of all the award shows.”
