The man who shot up a Denver Walmart and killed three people was sentenced Friday to three consecutive life sentences without parole, along with an additional 48 years. Local news station KUSA reports that Scott Ostrem, 48, pleaded guilty last week to three counts of first-degree murder for killing 52-year-old Pamela Marques, 26-year-old Victor Vasquez, and 66-year-old Carlos Moreno. Ostrem reportedly pulled up to the Walmart late last year and “walked inside, pulled out a pistol, and fired seven rounds without saying a word.” He then walked out and drove away. District Judge Mark D. Warner told the court there seemed to be “no motive or rationale” for Ostrem’s actions, and said he had a “black, malignant heart.” Ostrem reportedly made a deal with Adams County District Attorney Dave Young to take the death penalty off the table. “We think this is the best outcome,” Young said. “He’s going to die in prison. He’s going to die alone.”
