Walmart is set to announce plans Tuesday to hire any veteran who wants a job—one of the nation’s biggest hiring commitments for veterans in history. Walmart, the nation’s largest retailer, will require that the veterans have left the military in the previous year and did not receive a dishonorable discharge. The program will officially launch on Memorial Day. In a statement, first lady Michelle Obama called the program “historic” and said she will urge other corporations to follow in Walmart’s footsteps. According to Walmart, the program is expected to lead to 100,000 new jobs for veterans in the next five years.
