The former South Carolina officer awaiting trial for the April shooting death of Walter Scott, an unarmed man he allegedly pulled over for a broken brake light in North Charleston, has requested financial help for his defense, ABC News reports. Michael Slager’s defense lawyers told a judge Wednesday that they still haven’t been paid, and they are requesting public funds to pay for expert witnesses. The amount of money requested by the defense was not disclosed.
