The Washington Capitals beat the Las Vegas Golden Knights late Thursday to claim their first Stanley Cup title in 43 seasons of playing. After a first period with no goals, Game 5 picked up momentum in the second, before Capitals’ center Lars Eller scored the winning goal with 7:37 left, giving the team a 4-3 victory over the Knights. Alex Ovechkin, now the first Russian NHL captain to win a Stanley Cup, called the win “unbelievable” immediately after the game. “I don’t know what to say. It’s just unbelievable,” he told NBC Sports.
