“Ronaldo, are you prepared for this game today?”That may seem like an innocuous question, but Portugal soccer star Cristiano Ronaldo didn’t see it that way. When a reporter asked him this on Wednesday as he and his teammates took a walk through Lyon, France, Ronaldo didn’t answer. Instead, he calmly snatched the reporter’s microphone and tossed it into a nearby lake.
It may just be that the audio was cut off—for obvious reasons—but the reporter appears to have looked on in stunned silence.
His TV station, however, is loudly demanding that Ronaldo apologize.
“At the very least we believe we deserve to be given a formal apology from Cristiano Ronaldo and the Federation,” a spokesperson for CMTV told told the Spanish paper AS.
That apology may not be forthcoming. The soccer star has a longstanding beef with CMTV, dating back to when he sued the station for running a story about his son’s mother, whose identity Ronaldo has tried to keep secret.
Since then, relations between the footballer and the news channel have been strained. When a CMTV reporter asked him a question at a 2014 press conference, Ronaldo refused to answer.
“What is CMTV?” he asked. “I don’t know who they are, so I can’t answer.”
That seems unlikely.
