A man attempted to scale Trump Tower in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday, prompting the shutdown of busy Fifth Avenue as rush hour nears, and a massive police response including helicopters and safety airbags being placed at the ground below. The unidentified climber, afixed with climbing gear and suction cups, began scaling the skyscraper around 4 p.m. ET, and people in the surrounding area began posting images and videos of the daredevil attempt to various social-media platforms. He was pulled into the building by NYPD almost three hours later. The climber reportedly identified himself as "Steve from Virginia" to responding police, and said that his aim was to get the attention of Republican presidential candidate and the building’s namesake resident Donald Trump.
